Maybe we're biased, but some of the absolute best campgrounds in the West are located near Jackson Hole. In fact, Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks contain more than a few of the most scenic and memorable campsites you'll ever visit. The following list contains our top five easy-to-reach places to unwind and experience nature:
1. Jenny Lake
One of the most scenic campgrounds in North America, Jenny Lake is situated right at the base of the Tetons. With views of our favorite mountain range reflected in Jenny Lake's glassy waters, this campground often fills first thing in the morning. You have to be diligent to get a spot, but it's worth it! (Open May-Sept., at $23/night.)*
2. Madison Campground
Located in Yellowstone National Park near the west entrance, the Madison campground is just 30 minutes from Old Faithful. With marvelous proximity to the Madison River, camping here will allow you to sleep just a stone's throw from great fishing. Plus, wildlife is known to migrate through the area, allowing for up-close viewing opportunities. (Open May-Oct., at $22.50/night.)*
3. Signal Mountain
This campsite offers five-star views of the Tetons and Jackson Lake. Surrounded by towering fir and spruce trees, Signal Mountain puts you right in the heart of Grand Teton National Park. With marina facilities, it is a great choice if you plan to spend time recreating on Jackson Lake. This campground also fills up fast, so it's best to get there before noon! (Open May-Oct., at $22/night.)*
4. Canyon Campground
Situated in a lodgepole pine forest within Yellowstone National Park, this campground may be the most conveniently located site for some of Yellowstone's most popular attractions. It stays busy, with a convenient store, pay showers and RV hookups; but it can be a savvy choice if you wish to stay close to the action. (Open the end of May-Sept, at $26/night.)*
5. Lizard Creek
If you're looking for solitude in Grand Teton National Park, Lizard Creek might be right up your alley. At the north end of the Park adjacent to Jackson Lake, this campground is nicely shielded from the road with a forest of spruce trees. If you don't mind trading a longer drive for fewer crowds, this campsite is for you! Jackson Lake is only about 100 feet from Lizard Creek, and the campground is known for offering plenty of peace and quiet. (Open June-Sept., at $22/night.)*
